My Favorite Quilt Store is Closing
A few weeks ago I received my quarterly newsletter from one of my favorite quilt shops,
In the Beginning. I've been wanting to take a class and was planning on perusing it to pick out one in the upcoming weeks. Because I didn't look at it, I missed the big type on the front that said, "Store Closing!" It wasn't until I made a trip to the store to buy some backing for my I Spy quilt that I saw their building was for sale, and a notice from the owners.
No! Say it isn't so!
The owners, Sharon Yenter and her husband are retiring after being in the business since 1977. Their son Jason Yenter will continue the wholesale fabric business. Well, at least there is that.
Thank you to Sharon, your wonderful staff and teachers for introducing me to quilting. Here are some thoughts on how you touched my quilting:
- I took my first quilting class at your store, taught by Sandy Bonsib. What a wonderful way to be introduced to quilting. Sandy helped me get over my fear of choosing fabric. I made this very bright sampler in the first class which I gave to my mom.
- Fun Patterns and Kits- I'll miss the fun patterns you had--one of my favorite quilts was this mini-hawaiin. I still have much of that line from your store in my stash. I made this quilt for my friend's baby, and it is still one of my favorite quilts I've made. I made another Irish chain quilt from your fabrics and a kit.
- Your line of books-I've used both your baby quilt book, and I loved taking a class and learning how to do blended quilts--an In the Beginning speciality. I used the book to make the castle quilt (another fun one) and Parker's pink quilt (blended)
- Your staff has always been so helpful--they've always taken the time to help me pick out the right fabric for a pattern or backing, and they always remembered me when I came in.
- Your fabrics are great. I have boxes and boxes in my stash--from florals in the garden twist collection, toiles, color tree, etc. I'm glad to hear that you will still be producing fabric.
- Your sponsorship of quilting activities in the area--from shop hops to the local PBS station, you've really influenced so much in this region
Again, thank you for all you've done!
